# I live in the UK, and relocated from the Midlands to Greater London a…

I live in the UK, and relocated from the Midlands to Greater London a couple of months ago. Since then, my Alocasia has come up with these large brown areas on the leaves, and have been “bleeding” a brown liquid. There’s still a glob of brown “blood” on one of the leaves. What can I do to help? Is it too much sun? (In the midlands it was on a north facing window, and since being in London it’s been on a south facing window.) Is it that the water is too hard? Do I need to fertilise it? Are there pests? (I have noticed tiny little midge/fungus gnat sized flies in the house, could this be causing a disease or something?)

Can you increase the humidity, maybe by spraying water on them every few days? Can you access any rainwater? If not, try distilled water to see if that helps. Mine is in indirect sun all day (north facing).

I agree, misting is good. Water very little but mist every three or four days. Mine is a south facing room but not directly into the sun. They love the heat so as much humidity as you can. Also, don’t use tap water use rain water or if you have a condensing tumble dryer use the water from that. Mine love it. Good luck.

Thank you both!! I’ll give misting a go and see if it improves

It’s over watered causing the plant to release excess water through the leaves (guttation). The blood color is the natural pigment (anthocyanin) in the plant that produces the red, blue, or purple colors in the sap and tissue.

Change of environment can cause shock and cause the plant to use less water. Let the soil dry out more. Get a grow light if lighting levels are less than before.

Do not mist. It will make the problem of overwatering worse. The plant is trying to get rid of excess water through the leaves. Misting is going against the efforts of the plant.
