# Anyone have an Oxalis Iron Cross shamrock? I have very happy…

Anyone have an Oxalis Iron Cross shamrock?

I have very happy shamrocks of other varieties including purple oxalis, but my Iron Cross is wilting, leggy, and sad looking no matter what I do. I’ve tried different windows for light intensity, repotted into the well-draining mix I use for my others, checked for rot and pests… I’m at a loss 😭

Hi! Yes! I have one and it is WILD!! It’s so validating to see you’re having issues with yours too.

I have mine in a 50/50 mix of perlite and peat moss. I water it every 3-5 and it sits right in a south facing window and it seems to be working out well

I think it’s just their nature to be a little more wild? I’m thinking about planting it outside, I think it would like it more maybe. Same as you I have a beautiful thriving purple - the iron cross seems to be a little different I’ll drop photos

Yours are gorgeous!! Here are mine. I think I’ll go to a smaller pot and try your 50/50 medium! Thank you!

It’s possibly getting too much water based on your picture. The purple oxalis has stems that fill the pot. The iron cross has much less stems in a pot almost twice as wide. The plant can’t use up the excess water. The pot should only be 1 inch to 2 inches wider than the root ball.

Also, watering every 3 to 5 days seems excessive for a plant that size.

The 50/50 perlite and peat for a plant my size that watering schedule is working out really well. I always check the soil before watering - only you know your conditions! Looks like they’re planning to downsize the pot 😊

Definitely downsizing! I got it from someone who had it in a really deep pot so I’d hoped this shallow one I had on hand would be better but I’m going to go nursery pot 1/2 the size and see how it goes. Thanks for all the help!
