# My raven zz plant has had its stalks start to fall, I have been…

_Posted by Sarah on 2025-04-07_

My raven zz plant has had its stalks start to fall, I have been mindful of not overwatering and only water when the soil is dried out. I have it in a partial sun/part shade area. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😩 any help is appreciated!!

ZZ’s have a rhizome (if that’s how you spell it), which is the big potato that sits next to the roots and houses water. This means they’re very easy to overwater because you can water when the soil is dry, but the plant might not be ready for water for another week.

I just wanted to ask a question.. I’m trying to identify this plant and it looks really similar to yours. Is it the same? If so can you tell me info on it?! Thanks in advance ❤️

You might have root rot, i would repot and clean out dead or mushy roots and start with fresh soil!! I recommend more chunky soil rather than just potting mix!

Check the break area of the plant for rot. Check the roots and rhizome for rot. Cut out the rot, if that’s the issue.
