# Birthday plant dying since i moved😭 please help! My rubber plant has…

Birthday plant dying since i moved😭 please help!
My rubber plant has been dropping green leaves since i moved, shes on a west facing window. I checked roots, even rinsed them clean and planted into new soil, no change, still dropping. I took the “caps” off the new leaves because i thought maybe theyd open up? Probably a mistake. I dont water very often because it seems to hold the water for awhile, maybe thats my issue? Ive never heard of a plant dropping what look like healthy leaves 🤦🏼‍♀️ any advice?

Hi there 👋 I’d like to help if I can. Do you happen to know what brand or type of soil it was previously in and what type of soil it’s in now? If it’s in anything of Miracle Grow Brand, I would guess that it’s the soil not draining well that’s causing the problem, or a peat-heavy soil that isn’t well-draining enough, and taking too long to dry out between waterings. I have mine in Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix for the already added drainage so I don’t have to mix my own soil. Perhaps try repotting it into a better draining soil mix if the new mix isn’t, or allow the current mix to help the plant recover, but adding some Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder might speed up the recovery process for you. Hope this helps.

Thank you! It was just some random brand from the local flower shop that my grandmother picked up. Definitely going to use better soil for drainage

Hope it helps your plant recover soon! I have a few ficuses, and my burgundy one is my favorite, so I’m happy to help if I can. The other possibility might be that it’s simply going through shock from the move and change in temperature or lighting. Another thing I’d like to ask is if the pot is a self-watering pot or one with drainage holes. If you want it to dry out faster, a terra cotta pot with at least one large drainage hole will work great for that. Plastic pots with multiple drainage holes are also great for this plant, but I would avoid glazed ceramic pots or self-watering pots that are meant for plants that don’t want to dry out much between waterings.

Shes currently in a plastic pot with 4 medium/largish holes

Im wondering if the soil is all wrong, sometimes i have to open the window at night (gets 80+ in my room🙃) but i hear they hate drafts?

The ficus can handle higher heat like 80+ degrees, but I agree that it is sensitive to drafts, so maybe just move it away from the window when you open it at night.
