How can I successfully get rid of gnats once and for all? Ive tried not watering plants for a while to dry out the soil but no success. I’ve tried covering the top layer of soil with cinnamon but no success. I’ve tried the sticky fly traps, still there. Anything I can do that will quickly stop them from reproducing?

Ok so i was in the same boat as you- but for 3 weeks i sprayed 3-4 times a week with a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water and it has helped so much- j slowly increased the hydrogen peroxide i started with like
3:1
2:1
2:1.5
1:1
Ish ratios (i eyeballed it but somewhere there lol)
It has helped so much! I havent seen a single one yet!
and my plants are fine- but i wuldnt try full hydrogen peroxide bc i dknt wanna kill them lol - but i kust soray it on the soil moslty and whip the leaves off roughly
Good luck

Thank you. I’ll try that

Hi so I suffered with fungus gnats last year and what worked for me was buying nematodes and putting them into all my plants soil, this prevented all the babies turning to adults and flying. I also used these sticky tabs just on a couple of plants which collected the ones that were already flying.

Hope this helps

for me the only thing that worked was abandoning my plants for 6 ish months and letting the soil completely dry up and stay dry so the remaining flies couldn’t reproduce. mosquito bits are 100% effective though, you could try those but it is a process

first, make sure you’re not overwatering your plants. fungus gnats thrive in moist soil, and if your plants are in all purpose potting mix this is likely the cause. switching all my plants to a gritty, chunky mix got rid of my fungus gnat problem entirely. i used diluted hydrogen peroxide as a soil flush for those still in a dense mix during the transition period to kill any eggs, larvae, or nymphs hiding in the soil, and routinely squished any adults.

Use one of the two pictured in water each time to kill the larvae in the soil like fungus gnats and mealy bugs.

I fully agree with Plant Father that constantly wet soil promotes the growth of these pests. His recommendations are valid and work. I’m slowly moving my 140 plants to a potting mix that’s chunky (no peat moss or ‘dirt’ type potting soil) if the plants can take it. I rarely see fungus gnats.

I find that gnats follow my cell phone. Upstairs, no plants, all lights out at night and one will be flying around while I use the phone. Are they attracted to blue light and would the blue light traps help. I find they’re not attracted to the yellow sticky traps (or maybe they died off after watering using mosquito bits and now they’re back). Thx in advance.
