First time having an alocasia and I don’t know what’s wrong. The edges started getting crispy it’s in front of a grow light. And I have been watering it only when the soil feels dry. Is is possibly sunburn should I water more? Help!

It could be from low humidity. Alocasias need lots of high humidity. I would try misting it with a spray bottle everyday as that is what I do and my alocasias seem to love it. Or if you have a humidifier you can place it under that too.

Alocasias are very difficult to care for, so don’t beat yourself up!

They want a lot of oxygen around their roots, but they also want constant access to the water. And they're prone to both root rot AND dry rot. They want the perfect balance.

I've heard people have luck keeping them in a self-watering planter, in very chunky soil. But I haven't tried that personally. I have mine in pon (semi-hydro)

I was gonna say semi-hydro set up as well. I just transitioned some to leca and their root systems are taking off.

If I put it in leca do I just transfer them to the little leca balls and then water?

I recommend watching The Leca Queen on YouTube for more info because semi-hydro is quite different from soil. But basically you keep a reservoir under the leca and the leca will slowly absorb the water.
