# This is my Annabelle Hydrangea. I'm new to gardening, what could be…

This is my Annabelle Hydrangea. I'm new to gardening, what could be the issue? I can't tell if I'm over or under watering. When I water, I make sure the soil needs it with the second knuckle depth test. Usually once per day. It gets about 8hr full sun. When I transplanted it from the plastic pot on June 9th, it was a very hot 30c day, could it still be recovering? Many of the other plants I planted on the same day died back a bit as well, but are slowly recovering. Zone 4b. Thanks!

The soil looks very dry and dense. It’s likely under watered. Try breaking up the soil. Work store bought garden soil into the soil to add moisture retention materials. Add vermiculite if the soil is not holding moisture. Place 6 inches of mulch in a 3 feet diameter around the soil to prevent weeds and hold moisture longer. 🪴🍀

You’re welcome. I just noticed the tomatoes in back. They would benefit from the mulch and soil amendments. Try using pine mulch which is acidic. Tomatoes like acidic soil. It won’t hurt the hydrangea.

Use shovel and break up that dirt it can’t breath
