# My corn plant has developed a gray greenish mold on the surface of…

My corn plant has developed a gray greenish mold on the surface of the dirt. It’s otherwise seeming to do OK does anybody know what this is or how I can treat it the plant is in our sunroom which can get pretty hot and humid.

this happened to me too. does it have drainage?

Yes. I just repotted into a pot with drainage. I was going to try meep oil? I saw that helped with fungus on other plants.

I’m not educated enough on fungus to know, but it could be from overwatering. I had the same issue with overwatering my basil, and mold grew on the top of my soil.

That's probably flowerpot parasol. It's a harmless mushroom that likes potted plant conditions. If it appears fairly rarely, it just means your soil is healthy. If it appears frequently, then you might be overwatering or need to work on soil drainage. Good airflow can also help. It's fine to let the myshroom do its full life cycle, but you might want to remove the fruiting body if you have pets that might try to eat it

Yes just repotted because the last pot did not have drainage holes

Adding perlite is a good idea. It helps keep air around the roots. If you use dense soil it tends to hold on to too much water. It can lead to mold and root rot.

This happens when the soil of a plant doesn’t get enough light. It might also be because of over watering.

It is totally fine to fix it just take the top inch of soil off and throw it away. Then put some new fresh soil in. This also happens less if you use a more chunky soil mix.
