So I got this desert rose maybe 2 months ago. It had spider mites and lost all leaves. Now the base seems to be rotting. Is there anything I can do to save it? The soil is still moist but I’m scared it will break apart if I try removing it from this soil.

Is the bark soft, firm or hard?

They’re pretty prone to root rot. It looks like it’s soft. You need to take it out to check it. If it’s not too bad you can cut it out and treat it but it’s not easy.

thank you! sorry I’ve never dealt with this yet but what do I cut out? the rot?

No worries. You’ll need to cut any rot out, treat with anti fungal, let callus over and hopefully you can save her. They’re toxic so you should wear gloves. Are you on facebook at all? There’s an amazing desert rose group with tons of educational files on how to deal root rot and how to best care for them. These are my two, and that group has taught me a ton.
