# Hey all! I bought this lipstick plant about 3 months ago healthy from…

Hey all!
I bought this lipstick plant about 3 months ago healthy from a nursery, potted it in the same day. It was not doing well, despite me having told the nursery lady the light my room gets, so I repotted it 1 week ago with more soil. I still don’t think it’s doing well! If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it \<3

Hey! I can see your lipstick plant is looking a bit sad. Two quick tips: 1)Try moving it to a spot with more bright, indirect light-right now it might not be getting enough. 2) Only water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and make sure the pot drains well so the roots don’t stay soggy. Hope that helps!

Hi Kayla, I don’t think that’s a lipstick plant. It looks like a tradescantia also known as silver inch. It’ll grow better in a spot with brighter light. That pot might also be too big for the root ball which can cause the soil to stay wet for longer and messes with your watering because the top layer might feel dry but underneath could be staying quite wet and causing the roots to rot. I would aim to pot it up in a smaller pot (go for about an inch or just over around the size of the root ball).

I know it’s been a few months so this is not the issue now , but I would let plants adjust to their new environment when you bring them home. I always let sit at least a week or so before I repot

This isn't absolutely necessary with all plants tho. Sometimes I repot the same day, sometimes they end up sitting around for a couple months. With really dramatic plants it might be best to wait a week or so.
