# Please help! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong I recently repotted…

_Postat av Yaneth99 den 2025-03-12_

Please help! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong I recently repotted it. It was a hand me down in terrible conditions there was literal pieces of ceramic in the soil no joke! So I repotted it with potting soil and perlite. Am I not watering it enough?

How often are you watering it, and how much light does it get?

It gets plenty of light I open my curtains during the day

This is an Easter cactus probably or maybe a Christmas cactus. Either way they like very well draining soil and fairly high humidity. Water when the soil is nearly dry, watering thoroughly so the soil is well soaked but never let it stand in water. They grow in trees so they never are in soggy soil. It can take some time for it to recover from transplanting.

Might be too much water… I’d recommend a different soil, probably something cactus-specific or even one you made yourself. Make it extra well draining because these guys are tropical cacti as well as epiphytes. Is that another cactus in its pot? If so, you might want to move it bc it’s a desert cactus and has different watering requirements.

Agreed. The pot definitely looks too big for the cactus’s current size. I’d try repotting it in something no more than 1-2 inches larger than the root ball of the Easter cactus. As for soil, it is epiphytic and still a cactus, even if it’s a jungle cactus, so repotting it in a well draining cactus and succulent mix could help as well. Mine’s currently in Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix if you need any soil recommendations. The amount of humidity it needs depends on where you live and where you have it in your house. I live in PA, so I don’t use a humidifier for it and never mist it. But if you have it somewhere near a drafty window, frequently opening door, or air vent that’s blowing forced hot air on it, that could be affecting it, especially with it still being cold in some places till the next month, so moving it away from anything that could be dry and cold could help. I let mine almost completely dry up between waterings, about 11-14 days. And if it helps during the repotting process, they eventually grow to drape over the side, but if you want something to support them while they’re adjusting after the repot, you can stick some bamboo/barbecue skewers into the soil and prop them up against them. I did that to keep them upright during and after my repot, then pulled them out after a couple of weeks, and I use them now to check if the soil’s dry enough to water them again. Hope this helps!

Will do! As for the desert cactus, does it just like to stay dry for the most part? That little cactus is the first one I’ve had

if there is mushyness or overly dry parts u can propagate each one into their own plant to save it

I recommend separating it from the other cactus. Cacti like dryer soil than an Easter Cactus. Using a specific Cactus and Succulent potting mix is best, as recommended. Standard potting soil can take too long to dry out.

Just to add, mine is in a ceramic pot. Likes that better than plastic.
