I was recently given this pothos, and I repotted it because it was in a pot with zero drainage. There aren’t really any roots at all so I’m guessing it’s just a bunch of new cuttings. Can anyone tell me why these new growths are crisping up and dying before they’ve even really sprouted?

Because it doesn’t have roots to absorb the water in the soil. Without roots soil is useless. It needs to be propagated in water until it has roots at least 2-3” long! It’s wilting and crisping up because it’s dehydrated :) funny how that works right

Thanks! I’ll set them all up in some water for a while then

Pothos can definitely be propagated in soil! You have to treat the cuttings as cuttings and not as an established plant. This means keeping the soil evenly moist, not soaking wet, until the roots start to appear. A slight tug on the cutting after a couple of weeks can indicate if the roots are developed.

Adding rooting hormone powder along the cut ends increases the speed of root growth and the number of roots.
