I got this cutting recently and it was in sphagnum. Is it looking like root rot, or something else?

The brown isn’t good but you can save that. Cut the brown root off and remove the browning leaf exposing that joint. Also cut off the brown tip on the top. Nestle the node in moist sphagnum in a Tupperware or similar container with a few vent holes poked in it. Place it somewhere warm and keep it moist. It will grow a new root and leaf pretty quickly. If that new leaf forming gets any worse or gets mushy make sure you remove it too. It doesn’t look like it will open.

You could smell it if it was root rot.
