Hi! So I’m pretty sure i have fungus gnats and im wondering if it is necessary to change the soil they live in and some good ways to get rid of them.

My chinese money plant also has edema i think and ive read some things saying to let it dry out a little bit?? Not sure how that helps but it is looking a little droopy… do you think thats from thirst or something else? Thanks so much! :)

I’ve honestly found that fungus gnats are more of a nuisance than a detriment to a plant (although it is a sign of the soil being consistently wet so something to STRONGLY consider)

If your plant seems fine otherwise, I would not necessarily adjust the watering schedule (especially if you notice that it is droopier now that you’re trying to let the soil dry more) and instead just put mosquito bits in the soil (which kills the gnat larvae) and put sticky yellow traps in the pots to catch the adult gnats.

That ^ solved my own gnat problem

change the soil, don’t give it neem oil, i gave mine neem oil and it rotted away, it was my favourite plant too

Get some Mosquito bits or Mosquito dunks (I use the dunks because they are bigger pieces) and put them in your watering can and make a tea. Let it soak for 10-20 minutes, then water. It will kill the larvae. I would also recommend getting a moisture meter and check your plants before watering. Try and pull the plant out of the pot and inspect the roots, if the soil is sopping wet and the roots are brown and mushy, trim them and repot it in fresh soil. If they are white and look fine put it back in the pot and the mosquito dunks should clear up the gnats. (I break up the disks into quarters or halves depending on how many plants I have to water that day. The larvae eat the roots so make sure to check the roots. 🍀good luck

I second mosquito bits. They are extremely effective and easy to use. I just used them with all my plants because I couldn’t tell which plants they were in and all the gnats were eradicated

there’s usually no need to change the soil unless it’s a very dense mix. i would start by watering with a hydrogen peroxide solution to kill the larvae in the soil and yellow sticky traps for the adults.
