# Hi community, I just realized new growth leaves of my fiddle leaf has…

Hi community,
I just realized new growth leaves of my fiddle leaf has tinny bugs on it. The new leaves has been discoloured for about couple weeks and hasn’t changed the color yet. I haven’t repotted it since I bought it because I was thinking it is big enough. I am watering it after measuring the moisture but nothing else. Can anyone advise me about the problems with the new leaves and bugs?

Insecticidal soap or shower the plant regularly for a few weeks. Quarantine from your other plants. It looks like you have spider mites (fine webbing on leaves). Looks like you caught it early

Thank you for your advice. Do you think showering will help with the mites or discolouration or both? The sides of the leaves started browning too.

Agreed. Looks like spider mites. Once the leaves turn, it’s unlikely they’ll recover unless they’re super new leaves and still developing. The shower will help with the pests, which will help future discoloration. I would shower it (ensure both sides of leaves are thoroughly cleaned), then spray down with insecticidal soap. I’d spray it once per week and continue to wipe leaves \& stems weekly or more to keep the mites away. If the yellow doesn’t go away, your best bet will be to prune those leaves.

Thank you for your reply. I will definitely do your suggestions too. Hopefully it will recover.

The mites literally are sucking the chlorophyll out of your plant leaves. Spider mites tend to be a more common problem in drier climates (if you get seasonal changes they will usually “attack”
during the fall spring and winter because of the drop in ambient humidity. And pests of any kind are attracted to less healthy plants - this could be nothing you’re doing just again the seasonal change and less light. Try as I might my plants always struggle through the winter especially if they’d been living outside

Thank you again for the clarification. You are right with the weather conditions. It is winter and we are using heater on so air is very dry in my living room and sunlight is very limited. I should probably be using humidifier to balance it. I will apply your suggestions immediately to save it.
