# Just got back from a 3 day vacation and my new baby spider plant…

_Pubblicato da Clark il 2023-12-29_

Just got back from a 3 day vacation and my new baby spider plant looks even worse! Some leaves are very pale and yellowing while others have completely died and gone crispy, I removed the dead and yellow leaves.

I know for sure it’s not getting enough sun where it is so I’m going to move it somewhere it can get more.

I watered it before I left but the soil is already almost if not completely dry, is that normal? Should I water it again? Should I repot?

You should also make sure you have it in the proper soil and not hydrophobic soil thy repels water

Spider plants have thick roots that store a lot of water. You have to water well and let it almost dry out or dry completely before watering again. I let mine dry completely between watering because most are in small pots. Then, I immediately water before the leaf tips turn brown.

You may have to repot to a size one inch wider if the soil isn’t sufficient to hold enough water.

Check the roots for dryness (under watering) or softness (overwatering). Roots should look like my picture.

Spider plants like being root bound. But, excessive roots can block drainage. The plants in the picture are root bound. But, I stay on it with a good watering cycle, fertilizer, plant vitamins and it gets bright light (north) from a window.

I wouldn’t worry too much about this guy. I have a baby spider plant as well whose soil tends to dry out before I water. Wouldn’t necessarily recommend it per se, but yours should bounce back after some thorough watering and a little more sunlight. It still looks pretty healthy overall. These guys are pretty hardy and a little leaf droppage is normal
