# I just bought a new snake plant. I watered it a few days after…

I just bought a new snake plant. I watered it a few days after receiving it but I think it overwatered. One of the leaves died and the other one is wilting a lot (bottom of the leaf feels very soft). Should I just wait it out and hope that it’ll get back to normal or should I intervene somehow?

me personally i’d probably cut the tops and try to propagate from there, but maybe leave the plant to dry and see if it gets any better. best of luck 🖤

repotting is a good first step, choose a well draining mix (i go for 70-80% grit for my snake plants) and see if you need to cut and propagate from there. the plant doesn’t look too bad so just repotting and maybe trimming dead roots will likely be enough

I would check the roots right away and see if they are rotted. If you have some good roots, I would chop off the black/mushy roots and clean/rinse the rest with hydrogen peroxide and then repot it. If ALL of your roots are black/mushy/rotted, I would propagate the leaves. YouTube how to cut them if you d indeed go that route.

I had the same issue with a small shoot on the edge of my snake plant’s pot a few months ago. It went soft and wilted to a 90 degree angle.

I don’t think I overwatered it as the last watering has been 15days prior, I always check the soil is completely dry first and there are stones under the pot which allows for any further drainage after watering.

I simply plucked out the leaf and haven’t had a problem since. The rest of the plant has remained very healthy.
