# Hi! I have Pilea which I got from friend of mine, and the small one…

Hi! I have Pilea which I got from friend of mine, and the small one is not doing well.

At first I realized that mold was present on surface, so i put stones at the bottom for more drainage. Still, since the weather and the room doesnt get much sun, soil don’t dry out for at least 5days.

It’s been more than a month and half. It had only 3 leaves and now only one. The leaves turn to brown from center, then drop.
I realized that the “trunk” of it turned into white. The bigger one in the same pot, however, is doing okay-ish and even started to produce a baby leaf.

Should I remove the small one and deal with it separately? Is there any advice for my little poor Pilea🙏🏼

I don’t own this plant so take what I say with a grain of salt. But have you already checked the roots for rot? The soil is very dense and compact. If the roots are thin then that might be to large a pot for its roots system. I would check the roots are also amend the soil. Add some perlite or something to loosen it up and put in a smaller pot. If you can, provide it more light. If you can’t it shouldn’t be sitting in wet soil. That is a perfect storm for not just root rot but fungus gnats as well.

Thank you! Yeah, when I put soil I was thinking this soil surface just gets lower and lower😅 I think I will either change soil or add perlite and see how things go.

It looks like it may need better soil… my first thought is to repot it. They don’t love being repotted, but better to do it now and have good soil. If you don’t want to, you could poke some holes around for drainage, add some perlite, and mix it good into the soil and see if you can get it to dry out. I let mine almost fully dry out before I water. Give it some great indirect sunlight, too. 🌿

I agree. I think i will change the soil, and see how it goes. Just used potting mix without doing anything so…thank you so much!🫶🏻

Mine took a month to adjust.
It’s in indoor potting mix and extra pertlite.
I water when top 1in of soil is dry. Mine get 3 hours of sun (when we have sun) everyday. It gets bright light the rest. I fertilize at the beginning of the month. Mine has 3 babies in it.

Thank you! I think that extra perlite is the key…. I’ll think of fertilizing when it settles too. It’s great that yours are doing great🥳

I also mix some fertilizer pellets in the soil for extra food.

I had a similar problem better soil helped so did cutting back on watering …. Now I only water when soil completely dry and then let water drain completely before putting back in planter pot.
