# Help…. is this scale or part of the tree and can I save him? I read…

Help…. is this scale or part of the tree and can I save him?  
I read scales should easily scrape off with your fingernail and squish like a bug. None of these scrape off easy nor do they squish like a bug. I’m so confused cause of it. He was beautiful a few weeks ago and now his new leaves are growing wonkey and he’s recently lost a lot of them plus I snipped off some of the really bad ones just Incase they were scale. Any help is appreciated.

Not everything on the stems looks like scale to me. They seem to be hardening over. But the leaves definitely have scale!!

I figured the leaves for sure but the stem there are so many different looking bumps but none squish like a bug. Will it harm it if I pick off the ones that look more like bugs if they are part of the tree?
