# Can someone help me figure out what this is? This leaf is just now…

Can someone help me figure out what this is? This leaf is just now opening and I see all these tiny spots. I have a fungus gnat issue I’m trying to battle, is this from them?

Looks like scale. Take a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and quarantine asap to make sure they’re not coming back

Do they only like the new leaves on plants? There is nothing on the rest of the plant

I’m not sure if they prefer new leaves, maybe? But they’re not super mobile so it’s possible they are just congregating around where the first one ended up staying. There’s quite a lot so it also might be worth getting bonide granules if rubbing alcohol and neem oil don’t work!

Definitely scale. Do what Kayla said. Then get a good neem oil spray and drench it. Add a good spray to your routine to make sure they don’t come back.

Is this elephant ear? I’m asking because I noticed on two of my new leafs I’ve got this as well.. I washed mine off with a wet cloth but also dealing with gnats around my elephant ear plants so I’ve moved them outdoors today to get some sun.. gnats have been a real issue! Not with any of my other plants tho- just the elephant ears.

Yes, this is an elephant ear plant in the photo. And the spots are on two of the brand new leaves, but not on any of the other ones.
