# Please help! This is my first ever proper plant! My friend bought it…

Please help!

This is my first ever proper plant! My friend bought it for me and I would like to keep it alive🪴I noticed it has roots growing out from the bottom…. So I should repot it into a bigger pot? It also has a small amount of mold on the soil by the roots sticking out…So should I just remove that bit of soil and then the rest is okay? Also couple of leaves have holes in them! Why!? And one has a bent bit with its juice sipping out?! Will my foliages be okay!?!😭 maybe that was because of how my friend transported it? But basically someone please tell me what I need to do to fix my rubber plant! Thank you so much 🎃💖🪴🐈‍⬛

You can direct the rubber plant aerial roots onto the surface of the potting mix. They can grow into the soil, just like they do in nature. You could even cut them back. It’s just trying to anchor its self more firmly. And brown spotting usually occurs from over watering, or not enough light. Try and keep it on regular 1-2 week schedule giving the soil time to dry in between watering. Maybe it needs more bright indirect light try placing it southern facing window. If you don’t notice change and see it getting worse it could even be botrytis blight which can be treated using fungicides.

I lifted it from the pot and there is a bit of that same mold growing on the outside of one side. When I repot it is it okay to just remove the mold? Will it be okay then?

Remove any rotten roots.
Once all the rot is removed, leave your plant out of its pot for 24 hours. After 24 hours, the roots should have had time to dry out a bit. Repot your plant in new, clean potting compost. It might be worth pruning your plant a bit, so the roots have to work less.

Just repot and change the soil- you should be okay. The mold may be from lack of wind/air circulation, and maybe a bit to much water. Fix that and you should be okay!
