# I’m new to raising plants, and I just picked up 3 new plants from a…

I’m new to raising plants, and I just picked up 3 new plants from a nursery today. I’ve noticed some tiny bugs on them, and some small cobwebs (not a lot). There was a little spider hanging off one plant which I killed and on another plant I saw a tiny bug but couldn’t make out if it was a spider, it was way smaller than the spider on the other plant. Any idea which kind of pest these are? Or are they two different pests? How should I quarantine them or treat them?

I would rinse the plants off with water and then spray them with some insecticidal spray or neem oil. I get mine from Home Depot or Walmart. If you don’t have any on hand, you could spray the plant down with some rubbing alcohol, water and a little dish soap in a spray bottle. Spray them down a couple times per week and keep them away from your other plants for a few weeks to make sure the bugs are gone.

They could be spider mites/aphids/thrips. Not sure without seeing them.

Thanks so much! Just out of curiosity, what would happen if I didn’t do that? Would the bugs go away on their own or would it get worse?

It would get worse if they aren’t just random spiders from the nursery. I would spray them down just in case. Otherwise, they can kill your plants and spread to any others you have.
