# I have this colocasia Calidora elephant ear that has ONE (healthy)…

_Posted by Hallie on 2023-09-07_

I have this colocasia Calidora elephant ear that has ONE (healthy) leaf that has been slowly turning yellow since I got it and is now full blown yellow. My thoughts were overwatering or root rot, but neither is true for the plant, plus every single other leaf and stem are healthy and it sprouted a new leaf just this week. I’ve had it for maybe 3 weeks. The first pic is the day I got it (spot the yellowed leaf pre-yellow in the bottom right), second pic is about a week ago, and the 3rd pic is today. Please help I’m afraid I’m killing it some weird new way

Apparently, with these plants, an old leaf dies off for every new leaf grown. Mine got a massive new leaf and the oldest leaf died. The plant will get bigger but the total leaf count won’t increase.

Good to know it’s likely not dying lol, thank you!!!

Once a leaf starts turning yellow, there’s nothing you can do about it. Just make sure that not other leaves are doing the same. Your picture makes it seem like it’s one of the leaves closest to the bottom which means it’s one of the first/older leaves on the plant. It’s quite normal for them to kill off some older leaves when new ones come in. Just monitor it and make sure nothing else starts turning yellow.
