# I’m starting to notice bugs that are hiding in my plants soil, some…

_Publicado por Mehgan C. el 2023-09-03_

I’m starting to notice bugs that are hiding in my plants soil, some look like this \& other ones look like this but with a bigger body \& smaller legs. I just watered my plants today, that’s why the soil is wet looking. I usually let them dry out a little bit before watering again. Any idea on what these bugs are? How can I naturally get rid of them? Moneys a little tight in my house.. They’re in my vegetable/herb plant soil, but none of my actual houseplants soil.

Make a soap and water mixture to spray on the soil using a clear dishwashing liquid like Dawn. Spray once a week until they are gone.

Wish I discovered this comment sooner.

Same thing happened with my plants and I removed all the soil and got new soil of a different variety

Sometimes new soil can save several weeks of treatment and aggravation.

they are fungus gnats! if you notice them, spray a mixture of Dawn and water, maybe a few drops of neem oil, and treat the soil and leaves once or twice every week! make sure to wipe the leaves down after, so they arent sitting with water on them (can lead to infections). fungus gnats are mostly harmless but super annoying and they breed in damp soil, which if your soil remains too wet the roots will rot. good luck!! 🍀🫶

Dawn isn’t bad for the soil?

I added some mosquito bits when this happened a few months ago (which also scared me), and some yellow butterfly looking fly traps to get the mature buggers. I think it got rid of them.
