hey y’all! so I have a little bit of a problem and need some advice. I noticed about 2 weeks ago that I saw some fungus gnat larvae in some of my plants soil and spider mite larvae on the others. pretty much every single plant even though they weren’t together. I did the peroxide, did a neem oil soak, insecticide soap, the whole works. Everything was fine for a couple days but I went to check on them and the soil is INFESTED. top layer of my Birkin is just littered with them, it looks like fuzz/ mold, and the little bug are climbing the stems. I did notice on some too, there’s actual mold (or something) ?? also didn’t even realize you aren’t supposed to do neem oil on young, small, or newly repotted because I repotted 3 plants the day I did the soak 🤦🏼‍♀️ (also need help figuring out why my new/small white wizards leaves or doing this. the new leaf stopped opening up and is browning already) please help!! what does the fuzz look like to you and are my plants all going to die?? i’m so scared and frustrated. TIA!

NOTE: The 1st picture is what I assume is the mold. 2nd is the white wizard leaf that won’t open and is turning brown. 3rd is my Birkin that is infested and 4th is the prayer that I think I ruined by repotting and immediately burning with neem 🤦🏼‍♀️

omg :/ yeah they’re moving, both big and small bugs. do you know, can I spray insecticidal soap on the soil? or use only neem for soil? i’ll try to scrap the mold, thank you!!

Also another note- I have great drainage for my plants, i’ve never had a mold issue before. it does seem like they are retaining a little too much moisture considering they haven’t in the past

Some bugs like gnats will lay their eggs in the top two inches of the soil so although you treat them the eggs then hatch over time. Remove the top 2 inches of the soil and replace it with new. You can either throw out the old soil or bake it in the oven for a bit to kill anything and use it again.

i get mold on the top of my soil even with good drainage if i have my plant somewhere that isn’t getting enough sun to dry the soil out.

it gets like 4 hours of full sun a day and is in bright indirect the rest of the time 😭 I haven’t even been using my humidifier and even when I did use it I didn’t have this problem :(

I’ve also been dealing with tons of pests 🫤 it’s an ongoing battle. First of all, try to quarantine any infested plants. It can be challenging if you live in a small space, but it helps to keep the problem isolated rather than spreading to the rest of your plants. Diatomaceous earth has helped me a lot with fungus gnats. A thin layer of it on top of your soil should do the trick. As far as spider mites, I would recommend putting any affected plants under the tap and giving them a good wash. Clean off all foliage and stems, then follow with an insecticidal spray. Hope this helps

I quarantined until I realized all of them were infested already :/ but thank you, i’ll try that!!
