Hey all. Has anyone (in Canada) ever used Safers 3 in 1 successfully for thrips on a miniature umbrella tree? These thrips are so small that they are hard to distinguish between bug and dirt. The leaves are still wonky though and it’s not growing much.

I’ve used Safers End All on my interior and exterior plants and they’re all fine ! Including my umbrella tree !

Against thrips? I’m not sure I can get Safers End All in Canada.

I couldn’t believe it when I read this because Im just finishing with the exact same problem. I have 5 umbrella trees and 3 are variegated. Out-of-nowhere 1 of the variegated had all these tiny black specks all around the new growth… specks didn’t move, magnifying glass didn’t help and in searching to try and identify what was on them I found only one photo on Reddit with the exact same problem in which no one has answered with any certainty. Anyways, impatient person that I am I went into full on ‘This has got to go NOW’ I cut the tree back specifically removing the infected new growth and went to our local greenhouse and picked up a bottle of Safers (Im in Canada out on the prairie SK) and saturated the tree and one of the other variegated ones as it was close to it, and I seen something else moving on it … Ive since determined that I think it was thrips on the first one and I think aphids on the 2nd one. Sprayed both really well, cut off what was really bad, waited about a week and sprayed again (today) even though I no longer see anything. Im hoping that’s the end of that! I LOVE the umbrella trees and Ive never had a pest problem and this came out of nowhere… one day beautiful new growth, next day infested with these black dots (Im sure it was Thrips) the greenhouse thought it was the waste from the pests… on a side note all 3 of the variegated came from Home Depot, purchased in three separate trips. The beauty of purchasing from HD is you can return houseplants, so if they’re not clear after this then I will be returning. I hope this helps you! 🪴
