# My sunflower is dying 😪 i am watering it, putting it by the window…

My sunflower is dying 😪 i am watering it, putting it by the window with no direct sun expo.. but nothing works. The bottom leaves turned yellow/brown, new flowers (3) didn’t bloom, the top leaves have dark edges.. is there a way to save? Please help

When I Google it…

“Sunflowers need full sun; see 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day – the more the better if you are trying to grow them to their maximum potential. Choose a well-drained location, and prepare your soil by digging an area of about 2-3 feet in circumference to a depth of about 2 feet”

I’m not sure why you have it in indirect light? I’ve been doing this experiment with a rosebush that I got. I bring it outside during the day so it gets it sunshine but then I carry it in at night and it is really thriving!

Check the roots, first, for root rot. I suspect overwatering or the roots have outgrown the pot based on the wilting and brown leaves.

Sunflowers need lots of soil unless it’s a dwarf variety. Three gallons is the minimum size recommended for the very short dwarf varieties. The tall varieties (3ft to 9ft) needs up to 10 gallons of soil.

As mentioned, full Sun is needed for at least 8 hours to sustain the growth and produce seeds.

Thanks for the comments- I will def check the roots. As its name suggest, I was keeping it outside, under direct sun for the whole day until the leaves started browning- i thought the sun scorched the leaves so I transferred it in. But well.. i will try again
