# Guys my raindrop peperomia has thrips 😖 plz help! I’m somewhat newer…

Guys my raindrop peperomia has thrips 😖 plz help!

I’m somewhat newer to being a plant mom and I’ve never delt with any pests. From what I read online, I need to thoroughly wash the whole plant and spray with insecticide once a week and also a systemic insecticide?? I’m afraid of over-doing the chemicals. Can you guys please provide me with some tips and maybe some brands of insecticides that you’ve had good experience with?

I’d really appreciate it!

You can indeed mix systemic granules into the soil to treat thrips and other pests, but it does take a while to work. On the upside, it will continue to work for a while. Bonide is a good brand and can be found on Amazon.

Shorter term, you can rinse the entire plant and use insecticidal soap to spray the leaves and stalks to kill the thrips. I found doing it 2-3 times a week was more helpful than just once. Captain Jack’s is top notch.

As a preventative, I have a spray bottle with a mixture of a few drops of Dawn dish soap, some neem oil, and some water that I use to spray plant leaves when I water.

Captain jacks dead bug brew is a great all around insecticide! And it’s available at Lowe’s. I’d also like to inform you that I’m 99% sure this plant is a raindrop peperomia and not a pilea peperomioides. Sorry

Chemicals make me nervous too, so I’m using a neem oil mixture to treat my plants for thrips. I just used it for the first time today, so can’t attest to effectiveness yet, but you might consider it if you prefer not to use insecticides.
