That’s a fungus! The entire fungus organism exists under the soil in a connection of “mycelium” which looks like a collection of tiny white roots. The little fruiting bodies that you see above the soil are how the fungus reproduces by spreading its spores to the wind to land somewhere else and grow some more mycelium. So when you pick one off it’s just like taking an apple off of the tree. Another one is already growing somewhere else along the mycelium ready to pop up. This type of fungus can be beneficial though. It is most likely breaking down decaying organic matter in the soil making more nutrients available to the roots of your plants. However though there are millions of species and they are all extremely similar looking so keep an eye on the spread of the little fruits and if the spread is affecting your plant in any negative way. But if you’d rather just get rid of it fully the best way would be to repot and changing 100% new soil and cleaning up the roots a bit.

Sorry for the super long response😅

I for one appreciate your explaining at length! Too many of us give over simplified answers for lack of time or bandwidth from the same questions over and over. You explained pretty concisely what would normally take to watch a 1-2hr documentary on the mico-fungi universe! 🍄

I have taken screen shots of all the good advice buried in comments 😀
