# Does anyone know why a leaf dies on my alocasia right after a new one…

Does anyone know why a leaf dies on my alocasia right after a new one comes in? I was thinking it was root rot but I don’t overwater and I just repotted last week and there was no rot, but this is still happening. I’m trying to keep them up with the bamboo but every time a new leaf comes in, an old one gets soft and dies.

I’ve heard that it’s an extremely common thing for a leaf to die of an Alocasia when a new one comes in, but I also know that it doesn’t have to be that way. Do some research, it always leads to solutions!

This is a common issue with alocasias. They expend a lot of energy putting out a new leaf, which saps it from the old leaves. I’ve found that by using fertilizer when I water, I no longer encounter this issue

Oh interesting! Do you use fertilizer every time you water?

I use it every other time, but you can do it every time if you dilute it! I use Joyful Dirt, which you can get on Amazon
