# what is everyone favorite soil mixture? something chunky and not…

what is everyone favorite soil mixture? something chunky and not going to retain a ton of water? the soil in about half of my plants seems to stay really wet, so at this point i’m so scared of root rot so i want to be proactive

i think a great way if you’re pretty new to creating your own mixtures is to use your preferred bagged mix plus some extra perlite and/or wood chips!! :) easy and beginner friendly.

A basic potting mix and then I add perlite, orchid bark, and horticultural charcoal. Cactus soil for the succulents

^SAME^ but I add “Vermiculite”. It helps to aerate soil while simultaneously retaining water and nutrients, which it then releases over time. Vermiculite is therefore useful in seed sowing and propagation. It can also be added to house plant compost.
