Calathea help please! I have two, a Freddie and a Stella (white fusion?). Both have had some leaves turn crispy, which I assume was a humidity thing. I’ve since put a humidifier nearby for both of them. The new growth is fine. Should I cut off the crispy leaves? If so, do you trim them right below the leaf or further down near the soil? And with the Stella/variegated one, I had a beautiful new leaf come out recently and my son accidentally whacked it and broke the stem 😩 should I trim it off or leave it? It’s not fully broken off but it is dropped down and the stem clearly is partly broken.

Any advice is appreciated! These are my first calatheas and I really want them to thrive 😅😅

Here’s everything I know about calatheas:

Water: Calathea are very sensitive to minerals in the water bc they can built up over time in the soil and block nutrient intake. Store-bought distilled is the easiest, although rainwater also works. I water mine frequent, but not much, bc they like to remain damp although not soggy.

Humidity: I have my humidity around 60%, and mine is thriving, so I guess around there is best.

Sun: I have mine in bright indirect/filtered light. A little to the right of a window. I’ve read that this light is best.

Hopefully that helps a bit!

Definitely helpful! Thanks :) maybe I am giving it too much sun, it’s right in my east facing window with a humidifier.

Yeah, that could def be causing crispy leaves.

Yes, I had mine in an east facing window also, and I have to make sure the sheer curtain filters the light on sunny days.

Not sure if this helps at all but one of my huger monstera leaves got broken a while ago, my house mate just reattached it with medical tape for a few months, we took the tape off and she has magically healed herself 😂 not sure if this is something you could try for your broken leaf? It saved my one ahaha
