I think I have spider mites. I have these little white dots on some these leaves as well as sap under a lot of leaves and on branches. I’m not sure how to tell.

It could be. The best way to tell is look at the base of the leaves and the stem, if there is webbing there, then it’s spider mites. They also like to do webbing on the bottoms of the leaves. I’ve never actually seen the mites themselves on my plants, just the webbing.

Yes I would treat just to be safe. If you have other plants near that one, I would look in the app to see if spider mites are a common pest for that plant and treat those as well. I would also keep treating every week or two as preventative (at least for a few months), as they are extremely hard to get rid of completely!

Even if you’re unsure, I’d definitely quarantine the plant and keep on eye on it for the next and any surrounding plants for spider mites. Just to be safe (and usually for me peace of mind) you can spray down the leaves with water and clean the leaves. This’ll remove the adults anyways and help clean the plant and any other pests. I’d avoid actual miticides/insecticides until you’re absolutely sure you know what you’re dealing with, otherwise you can accidentally create a resistance to the treatment, making them harder to treat later 😅

Also! Completely understandable being freaked out! Just remember that pests are a part of having plants and are often easily treatable (consistency is usually the most important part!) and if push comes to shove, it’s completely understandable to toss out
/rehome the plant if it becomes too stressful or distressing to treat!

Thank you so much for this advice! I found out my areca palm had some too. But I’ve been treating and it was so minor. I ordered some of the captain jacks dead big brew.
You’re right- completely comes with territory but I never thought it happen to me. Hahaha don’t we all
