# I’m new to plants, and my aluminum plant has been in ruff conditions…

_Gepostet von Hannah am 2023-06-12_

I’m new to plants, and my aluminum plant has been in ruff conditions for a bit. There is signs of new life finally but I was wondering if there could be something I’m doing wrong, or if anyone has advice for me.

Perhaps too much light or inconsistent watering. I keep mine in a room that receives morning sunshine and is mostly a partial light/ shade kind of environment. It is away from the window. For me, I’ve repotted it into a terracotta pot, as I’d overwatered it and it was almost dying. Thankfully, that saved my plant.
Keep in mind the roots are very thin and delicate, so bottom watering should be a good idea till it recovers. Good luck!

Thank you! Hopefully I can save mine as well.

These things prefer a terrarium environment! I have one that I planted in a round fishbowl with pumice at the bottom for drainage and soil on top. I watered it once 2 months ago and covered it and have not watered it since! It has exploded in growth. I actually need to get it a bigger terrarium now! They need a TON of humidity. The only light I have on it is from an LED reading lamp 😂

I've murdered 2 of these. They flourish for months and then droop and die. I live in a dry climate and I think it's just too hard to keep the humidity it likes. If I get another one, I may try putting it in the bathroom. Those thin-leaved plants are always finicky. That's why I stick to hoyas. 😎🤣

Okay thank you! I also live in a dry climate. I think I’m doing good on keeping them humid though. I also just got a Hoya! I heard that they are good plants.

I have been wanting a humidifier for years, but I didn’t buy it when it was just for me. I bought one for my plant babies. They now make them so you can set an ideal temperature and let them go. If you have other plants that like moisture, they can make a mini rain forest. Misting with filtered or distilled water can also help. I’ve even given some plants showers, and I let the shower get steamy (not hot, but moist) and just leave them in there for a few hours

In the moist room, not with the water still running\*
