# Picked up this monstera from Trader Joe’s last week. Had a small case…

_Publié par Jubi le 2023-05-30_

Picked up this monstera from Trader Joe’s last week. Had a small case of root rot, so I trimmed suspect roots, repotted with fresh new soil, then watered with diluted hydrogen peroxide. Are these yellow leaves concerning? Also, when misting with neem oil this morning, I noticed about 4 fungus gnats walking around the pot. I’m assuming it’s just from being overwatered. Seeking advice and wanted to get a fresh set of eyes from more experienced people out there.

I would probably disinfect with low peroxide mixture. Take off all of the roots, and propagate in water. But that’s just me. I had a fungal or bacterial infection come in my house from a certain begonia Rex and it took out 3 of my plants including my Adansonii, that I already rescued and brought back from the dead. Just my opinion. I only use Leca and semi-hydro with Alocasia and monstera now. Their roots can handle it and then they develop spiky water roots which can really handle it. That’s what I do to preemptively deal with fungus threats. And maybe a gentle anti fungal spray.

I am also slowly transitioning my aroids and hoyas to semi-hydro Pon mix. One of my first plant learning the hard way lessons was a monstera i bought from Trader Joes. They like to pot there plants in pots that are way too big for the root system, and also in soil that is too peet heavy and not airy enough, and thus, when you water it, it just can’t dry out fast enough to breathe. Mine died of root rot sadly. I’ve learned a lot since then. Take that boy out of that soil and pot! Give it some aroid soil or opt for semi-hydro pon/leca. Hopefully its not too much rot already.
