# Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this part of this plant? It…

_Posted by Linden on 2024-10-08_

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this part of this plant? It almost looks like a different species but it’s growing out of the same branch as the leaves behind it. Worth noting that it grew this way, it didn’t grow and then change to this state. It’s also the only part of the whole plant that looks like this.

Powdery mildew, it’s fungus and not to worry about.

I don’t think that’s what this is. I’ve seen powdery mildew before. It’s actually growing deformed and discolored like this. These are new shoots.

And this is what new shoots usually look like… it’s behaving more like how cancer grows in the body.

I’m well aware, i have a ninebark that does it every summer. Happens to the branches that don’t get much sun or air
