# Hi! Does anyone have any good recommendations for fighting off fungus…

Hi! Does anyone have any good recommendations for fighting off fungus gnats? I’ve started using mosquito bits (sprinkling in surface and mixing in soil some and the watering as well as systemic) about a week ago but still seeing gnats. I don’t know exactly how long it should be before i start to notice a difference.
NOTE: This basil is dealing with the gnats along with other plants.

Diatomaceous earth and neem oil. I believe there’s a solution you can do with soap, but I have only used that for bugs not on plants.

I like Bonide Captain Jack’s Bug Brew. I’m not sure if it helps with gnats, but it seems to kill them instantly and give me instant satisfactions.

You can also use those sticky traps. If you have other bugs and critters you do not want to get trapped, then I don’t recommend using them. I was using them outside. After I had to free 2 lizards, I stopped using them. I didn’t think of trying with inside plants though. 🤔

Neem oil would work but the sticky traps do the job as well. I have a couple on the outer edge of a couple pots and they seem to attract the gnats pretty good. I got mine on Amazon for like $5 (pack of 10 maybe). There’s also a UV-kind with a sticky trap. Plugs right into an outlet and looks like a night light. This works well too.

Don’t mix the bits into the soil! They are made from organic matter (corn, I think) and when mixed into damp soil will grow more fungus, leading to more fungus gnats! The directions that say to sprinkle them around are for mosquitoes.

The package is poorly designed, but under the “directions for use” there is another section labeled “fungus gnat larvae control.” Follow those directions once a week for 3-4 weeks and you shouldn’t have any more gnats.

👍This is the way.
