# Hello all, I have a set of recently planted “Fine Line Buckthorn”…

_Pubblicato da Alexander il 2025-07-17_

Hello all, I have a set of recently planted “Fine Line Buckthorn” plants (not invasive but a hybrid) of Botanical Name: “Rhamnus frangula 'Ron Williams'” (see photos).

In a matter of 1-2 days most leaves turned yellow/brown with pinhole size holes (photos). I also found 2 beetle-type insects (don’t know exactly what they are) on a leaf (also took photo).

I appreciate wholeheartedly if any of you have insight into what may be causing this and, more importantly, what I could do to remediate and hopefully bring back these beautiful plants to their healthy state.

Thanks in advance.

That is a japanese beetle and a very likely cause of that kind of plant damage. I don't know how to manage them, but they do seem to have a strong preference for herbaceous hibiscus (and my hibiscus doesn't seem to mind its leaves being repeatedly skeletonized)

Oh this makes total sense. Thank you very much for identifying this pest. I came across this online in reference to this plant … “Some common pests that can become a problem are Japanese beetles”. I now know thanks to you that iIneed to treat for this type of pest. Thanks again.
