# I have a monstera adansonii that I bought as rooted cuttings and…

_Opslået af The Mar Vistan den 2024-03-15_

I have a monstera adansonii that I bought as rooted cuttings and planted in LECA about eight months ago. It made the transition pretty easily and has been growing steadily since.

Out of nowhere a few weeks ago, individual leaves started to go yellow, one at a time. The first couple didn’t alarm me; I know plants shed leaves from time to time. But now these two pictured leaves are the fifth and sixth ones to yellow, which seems like a lot for a plant of this size.

It has a well-developed root system and I’ve been keeping the reservoir topped up fairly regularly since this started happening (prior to the leaves yellowing, I had accidentally let the reservoir go dry a few times). With these symptoms, I’d usually think over/under watering and decide which from the context, but in LECA it always has access to reasonable levels of nutrient water, so I’m stumped.

Anyone see what I’m missing here?

Do you change the water out at all or just regularly top it up? I was always told without leca to change the water every 3-5 days or once a week at the minimum. With leca change the water once a month.

Still new to plants so i dont know if that helps with ur situation.

I was wondering about the same thing ie changing the water every so often. I think the standing water could possibly lead to algae formation or other bacterial growth? A quick look online and most seem to recommend an entire water change 2-4 times a month. I don’t have any experience growing in LECA though, so I could be way wrong lol! Wishing you best luck!

Make sure the water isn’t too cold, that can cause rapid die off. But, If the leaves are low on the plant it could just be that they’re the oldest leaves.

It might just need a bigger jar the root system seems a little crowded to me

Are you adding hydroponic fertilizer to the water?
