# Hi all! I’ve had a fungus gnat problem in my house for a while now…6…

_Pubblicato da Biri il 2025-01-06_

Hi all!
I’ve had a fungus gnat problem in my house for a while now…6 months or so, and I think my plants may be harboring the larvae. They’ve decreased a bit with winter but are still bothersome. Has anyone tried Diatomaceous Earth (DE) on their plants to combat this problem? I want to try it but don’t want to damage my plants. Any tips on how to use it? I’ve seen people talking about putting it on top of the soil.
Have also tried the ACV trap method for fungus gnats, and it didn’t really work!

I HATE DE because it makes a gigantic mess and if it gets wet you have to replace it because it won’t work wet and it turns into sludge when it is. So if the plants soil isn’t comepltely dry it’s useless.

Now what I CAN recommend is getting mosquito bits and put them into your watering can and it’ll kill the larvae, zeevo plugin sticky traps or the off brand that are similar will take care of the adults and that combo has completely eradicated my fungus gnats. I personally use a little sachet for my mosquito bits so they don’t run out onto the plant and I get more usage out of them. You can google the ratios to use.

I get what you’re saying! I also read that if you use DE, bottom water so that this clumping issue doesn’t happen.
For the mosquito bit sachets, what kind of material were they? Muslin? Cotton?

Buy yourself a reusable/metal tea steeper and you can throw the bits in there and take them out with ease 😁

I used some of my paper tea bags when I was using BTI. I was too scared I mix up the metal one and have some BTI tea 😆 🤣

Mine are plastic but here’s a multitude of tea steeping thems you can also use, reusable is always great. I had the sachets in hand as we got them to protect our figs from birds and I just reuse the same one over and over. I also like the mosquito bits because they aren’t a pesticide and they won’t harm the plants.

2nd the HATE DE 😆, but, no it will not damage your plants, you just sprinkle it on and keep it dry. If it gets wet you need to reapply. I use beneficial nematodes to kill gungas gnat larvae in the soil. And predatory mites to kill adults along with Zevo or yellow sticky traps

You can also buy nematodes… they come in little capsule that’s dissolve as you water you plants. The nematodes will eat the larvae. I saw a HUGEEE reduction in fungus gnats after sprinkling my soil with the nematodes. I also do have a STEM blue light trap which attracts any “leftover” gnats
