# Hi Planties! I have a big beautiful split leaf philodendron that was…

Hi Planties! I have a big beautiful split leaf philodendron that was gifted to me by a close friend. When I first got it last spring I noticed it was infested with Scales. (As seen in photo) I treated the whole plant with neem oil and it seemed to help a lot. But now that spring is back around I noticed the scales are also in season:( does anyone have any tips on ridding my plant of these bugs for good?

It’s almost impossible to rid plants of insects when the plants live outside. About half of my plants live on a covered patio. These 60 plants get all of nature’s creatures including both good and beneficial insects, tree frogs, squirrels and recently a pair of great blue herons that built a nest in my neighbors tree to be closer to eat frogs. The tree frogs eat almost all of the pests like aphids.

You can use insecticidal soap after seeing pests or blast with a hose to get rid of aphids. More potent pesticides are available. You risk your life using some of them. Not worth it.
