# My baby is sick… I’ve had this ZZ since he was wee bitty and lately…

My baby is sick…
I’ve had this ZZ since he was wee bitty and lately I’ve noticed he’s gotten very droopy and has developed more (he’s always had a few) dark spots all over. His leaves are becoming dull, too. He was repotted over 6 months ago and I’ve always let him get really dry between waterings so I just don’t know what might be happening, can anyone help save him!?

I love ZZs so much, so I hope I can help. I think it’s just reaching for light, because it looks like the stems are stretching so it can get better light. Try placing it in a brighter spot, but not bright indirect, maybe medium at most. You’re looking for a good mix of part sun part shade. The brown spots seem to be a common thing for zzs but I also hear that it could be a sign of overwatering. ZZs don’t need a lot of water, I water mine about once a month to be honest. They like the soil to dry out completely before the next water, and you can check for this with a skewer or moisture sensor. And the dull leaves might be an indication that they’re just getting old and they’re about to die off. I also recommend repotting it soon, it looks like it’s a tad too big for the pot it’s in right now. Your ZZ looks good though!

Also it’s fairly normal for your ZZ to droop a little, as the stems get taller and bigger, gravity is going to do its thing.
