# This stalk from a succulent fell off the mother plant at Walmart and…

_Opslået af Jules den 2025-06-18_

This stalk from a succulent fell off the mother plant at Walmart and it looked like it fell off the same day I found it. Mother plant had something of “tricolor” or “variegated” on the plant label but can’t remember exactly what. Google photos is saying some sort of Jade. Help? So anyway, I stuffed this piece into my purse after I found it laying (it would’ve been thrown away, we all know that😅) looking plump in the leaves, forgot about it, and the next day 6/14 I found it in my purse again with the leaves all wrinkly like in the photos I put it in a pot and watered it. I Just watered it again now 6/17 11:50pm. It’s still green so it can still be helped right? Anything special I should do?

I would recommend putting in a draining pot and watering once a week it should start to plump up after a while

It’s an Elephant Bush, which is sometimes called a mini jade because they’ve become popular for bonsai, like jade plants. If you just watered it and it still looks like that, I would check the roots for signs of distress or rot. If you’re unsure if the roots look ok, attach of photo of them and I’ll try to confirm for you. Hope this helps.

If you do pop it out to check if there are any roots, and there are not, it might have become too calloused sitting in your purse. You might want to snip off the end to allow water to get up into the stem and leaves before you pop it back in the dirt.

If I do that, and snip the end off to callus over again, how long should I let it callus over before going back into soil?

Some might say to let it callous over, but with a succulent like that with no roots, I would just pop it right back in the soil no callous time. Adding some root hormone would be helpful as well.
