# Anyone know what I can do for my friend? Not sure if it's getting too…

Anyone know what I can do for my
friend? Not sure if it's getting too much light or not enough. I leave the blinds cracked during the day so they get a little peak of light and I water once a week. I even tried leaving the blinds closed and it got worse. Not sure what it needs!!

I would leave the blinds open ! 😁 only water when it’s most of the way dry also. I’ve heard browning on the leaf like that is a humidity issue but I’m not 100 on that so 😅

Is it direct light ? I have my blinds open all day and they receive a bit of direct light at the end of the day. As long as it’s not super direct harsh light it should be fine !

It looks overwatered based on the yellowing older leaves and the pale new leaf that’s dying before re unfurling. Was it repotted recently? Was the previous pot diameter a lot smaller than the current pot? I’m wondering if the pot is too big and hold water in the soil too long. This causes root rot.

I recommend checking the roots for rot. They will be mushy and smelly. Clean out all the rotting roots and sterilize with hydrogen peroxide, if it is root rot. Consider a smaller pot size if you have a lot more soil than roots. New pots should’ve only an inch or 2 inches wider than the old pot or the roots can’t use up all the water in the soil.

I believe it’s less likely a lighting issue causing the yellowing because the plant has not paled and yellowed on most leaves. But, bright light is necessary to help monsteras thrive. Give it more light as suggested. You may have to DIY a screen to block direct sunlight using suction cups and frame with lace/silk scarf/netting, etc., or install a partial plastic window film to diffuse sunlight. The film sticks with water and has many designs.
