Does anyone know what’s happening to my elephant plant? The leaves keep getting black spots before turning orange (2nd pic) and falling off. I think I’m watering good enough…

It looks like the symptoms from overwatering. Let it dry out more between watering. Check the roots for rot. Remove the rot. Disinfect the roots and tools with hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria.

Repotting into a pot too large can cause the same issues if it takes the excess soil too long to dry out.

Your plant appears to be an \*\*Alocasia\*\* (likely an Alocasia Polly or Amazonica). The browning and yellowing leaves could indicate a few possible issues:

\### 1. \*\*Overwatering or Root Rot\*\*:
\- \*\*Symptoms\*\*: Yellowing leaves, browning, and mushy stems can be signs of overwatering or root rot.
\- \*\*Solution\*\*:
\- Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Alocasias prefer slightly moist soil but not soggy. Overwatering can cause root rot, leading to yellow and brown leaves.
\- Ensure that the pot has proper drainage, and check the roots if the problem persists. If you find mushy, blackened roots, trim them away and repot the plant in fresh, well-draining soil.

\### 2. \*\*Low Humidity\*\*:
\- Alocasia plants thrive in \*\*high humidity\*\*. If the air is too dry, especially indoors, the leaves may start to brown.
\- \*\*Solution\*\*:
\- Increase humidity by misting the plant regularly, placing a humidifier nearby, or setting the pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles to increase the humidity around the plant.

\### 3. \*\*Improper Light\*\*:
\- \*\*Light\*\*: Alocasia needs bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light can lead to yellowing leaves.
\- \*\*Solution\*\*:
\- Ensure your Alocasia is placed in a spot with bright, indirect light, away from harsh, direct sunlight.

\### 4. \*\*Natural Leaf Loss\*\*:
\- Alocasias are known to naturally shed their lower, older leaves as they grow new ones. If it’s only one or two older leaves that are yellowing or browning, this could be part of its normal growth process.
\- \*\*Solution\*\*:
\- Trim off the yellowing or browning leaves to encourage healthy new growth.

By adjusting the plant’s watering, light, and humidity conditions, it should recover and continue to grow. Keep an eye on any new leaves to ensure they stay healthy!
