# hopefully someone can help! I’m having my annual battle with fungus…

hopefully someone can help! I’m having my annual battle with fungus gnats and was trying to let the plant dry out before watering with the mosquito bits, but the soil isn’t drying out. I just moved to a new apartment with an east facing window that I keep quite cold and didn’t know if this could be affecting it? Not much I can do about the light unfortunately, but I haven’t had a problem until living here recently

PS this soil hasn’t been wetted in probably two weeks

does this pot have drainage holes?

yep! it’s literally been fine for two years, this just started happening a week ago :(

My first thought is also what plant mother has asked. You might need a chunkier soil mix, I’ve noticed a big decrease in gnats with bottom watering.

agreed and a repot with fresh soil has always been the quickest way to get rid of gnats for me! if this pot just has the one hole in the bottom it could also be “plugged” with dirt which makes it harder for the water to drain

Yes ! Indeed I agree again lol I’ve had to tell my sister in law to switch all of her pots for both these reasons lol no drainage and little to none 😆
