Trying to propagate a Japanese maple softwood cutting about 8 inches. Cut all leaves but top 2, halved leaves, small wound, rooting hormone powder, seed starter soil with perlite, slightly open humidity dome. Outside under a covered porch. Yesterday, which was day 10, the leaves withered significantly. The stem seems healthy. Am I toast?

There’s a guy on YouTube, channel name Herons Bonsai, that uses a lot of Japanese maple in his work. I’ll bet he has your answer
