A good first step is to know what species of tree you’ve got and learn where it prefers to grow. If it’s a species that prefer to be grown outside, or indoors for example.

Since the art of bonsai is a combination of both horticulture and aesthetics there is a lot you can learn out there and you can’t learn everything at once. There are great books, videos online and other resources out there if you want to learn about a certain species, styles or techniques in detail. Taking some time to read or learn about more about this fantastic hobby will absolutely be worth it and help a lot.

I like Heron’s Bonsai and the Bonsai Supply are great YouTube resources. They take different approaches.

I love how unbothered he is about it all. It’s like watching Edward Scissorhands.

I worry about should I cut this branch or am I trimming the roots too much.
