Don’t be afraid.. cut it in half right above a leaf. It might only grow one again, but sometimes if it’s happy enough it will grow two from the two leaves below. Don’t cut right at the leaf, leave ¼ inch or so.

I’d also imagine the more roots you have the more energy it will be able to put into growing, so more roots likely means a higher chance
