# I have been trying to get this monstera to grow it isn’t doing so…

_Publié par 盛开 le 2024-07-08_

I have been trying to get this monstera to grow it isn’t doing so great. It has also been in water from the time I got it. Although today I put it in soil and moved it to a more light up area. Yes the leaves are sun burnt not to sunburnt tho. I have been told to cut off all sunburnt leaves but they are all burnt. Any suggestions there is a picture down below of it. Any help would be welcome

sounds like you’ve made a lot of changes and i would give it time to adjust

bright light — mine thrives in a west facing window and gets some SW sun throughout the day too. These do best in chunky, well-draining soil.

because these leaves burned, i’m betting your new growth will come from the base of the plant, instead of from one of these leaves

I agree just like for the future tips

Thank you for your information mine is in a EW facing window down stairs so it’s not very light but it’s still pretty light and it’s average temp is 70°

Hmm I’d be worried about root rot, especially since the leaves are looking floppy. The pot looks a large (Monsteras like to be root-bound) and they like more aerated soil, so adding in perlite, coco chips, and bark can help.

If you want to keep it in this pot/mix, make sure to let the soil dry out completely before watering

Ok thank you. I did not know they liked to be root bound so I will look into that I think I’m going to wait a week before moving it around again but I will be looking in to a different soil or just adding to the soil

A terra-cotta pot would help the soil dry out faster and have better air circulation for newly developing roots. Also when you change out the soil I would make sure the stem of the plant is above the top of the soil so the new growth point gets immediate sunlight and isn’t fighting through dark damp soil, monsteras as airoids like a lot of airflow especially for new growth!

Thank you luckily I do have terra-cotta pots and I just found a better soil. Also thank you for the tip on the new growth. 😁🙏
